Many drummers may not know it, but Ludwig practically defined the portable drum kit we know today. It started in the 1950s, when their original drum hardware provided drummers with a new level of stability. It was the introduction of the Atlas line in the 1970s, however, that first satisfied the needs of a new generation of drummers who required thicker and sturdier stands that could handle the high-impact, high-volume drumming of the newly minted sound of rock music. With their thin flat bases, thick tripods, and easily adjustable tubing that locked easily into place, reliable Atlas stands quickly became a mainstay of gigging drummers everywhere.
